His father was once firstly from Bristol but later settled along with his circle of relatives in New Zealand.

Steven used to be raised in a large circle of relatives of 18 youngsters and 5 women.

His father stood at 6 ft 11 in or 211 cm tall.

Steven is the youngest kid and used to be born when his father was in his 60s. His father died when he was simply Thirteen years old.

After his father’s demise, Steven was on the streets of Rotorua and his brother Warren rescued him and took him to Wellington and took care of him there.

Warren presented him to Wellington basketball legend Kenny McFadden who authorized him into his academy and educated him as neatly.

He played for the Wellington Saints of the National Basketball League in 2011 and was once named the New Zealand NBL Rookie of the Year.

Steven used to be picked 12th overall within the 2013 NBA draft through the Oklahoma City Thunder on June 27, 2013. This made him the second New Zealander to be picked within the first spherical of an NBA draft.
